MeMoi and Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Other than orange and black, the color you probably see most of all during the month of October is pink. That's because October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time where special attention is paid to not just breast cancer, but other cancers affecting women, such as ovarian and cervical cancers. Walks, races, and other fundraisers are held yearly with the goal of raising money for research and treatment. With the presence of COVID-19 this October, virtual fundraising efforts are more important than ever.
That's where MeMoi comes in. Each year, we partner with Sharsheret, a non profit organization that "improves the lives of Jewish women and families living with or at increased genetic risk for breast or ovarian cancer" (1). A proceed of our sales from select products during the month of October will go directly to Sharsheret and help fund things like "personalized support" and "educational outreach" (1).
What exactly is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?
According to the World Health Organization, "The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in countries across the world every October, helps to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease" (1). It was first officially recognized as an international movement in 1985 by the American Cancer Association and since then has been instrumental in early detection, fundraising for research, and outreach programs for those in need. As well as this, Pink October is a celebration of women who are fighting and those who are survivors.
